本片具有了一切英国精英教育的影子:男校(同龄女生的缺席),推崇美的教师,上一流大学的压倒性的任务,精英式的同性爱。
但是本片的各位男主角却缺少了那种显而易见的精英气息和使命,他们与普通的大男生没啥差别,整天作弄老师,说黄色笑话,吊儿郎当,各种低级地卖腐。
在精英的设定下,这群大男生的作为也可谓是一种讽刺。
本片初现的仿佛是两种教育理念的对立。
一方是Hector,一方是校长和Irwin。
(其实校长与Irwin也不尽一致,但在此先二元分)。
但到最后,我们发现,这不是一个关于政治讽刺、双方博弈的故事。
Hector是一个极有意思的角色。
Hector认为,教学的目的就是让学生真正热爱文学。
他代表的其实是英国传统的精英教学理念。
(讽刺的是,他是谢菲尔德大学毕业的,嘴上不说,但他心底却有着精英的崇拜情结)这里先说一下,20世纪英国的公学里曾流行着“同性恋崇拜”。
“公学成为神话,与之相关的同性恋从中国找到一种合法性和荣耀。
”而男孩们致力上的剑桥牛津则是“同性恋崇拜的象征”。
“多数教授鼓励男性之爱……他们要求将对男孩的爱意作为从古希腊衍生来的哲学理想,把它理想化,以至去除了所有感性和具体的性含义。
”这种同性恋崇拜的遗风一直在流传。
Hector高大而臃肿,头发花白,一个想象中那睿智的学者形象在银幕上看来又是有点古板和猥琐的。
(Hector这个名称也是很有意思的,Hector是荷马史诗中的特洛伊民族英雄,被学生称为Hector有什么讽刺的意味,我也搞不清楚。
)他有着英国历来的同性恋崇拜(男同性恋没女人的事)情结,认为同性恋是“一种高尚活动、纯洁的理想,”尊崇柏拉图,王尔德,奥登。
电影中多次出现了奥登,奥登本人曾就读格雷沙姆公学和牛津大学,是20-30年代英国同性恋崇拜的代表之一。
而那首“眠歌- Lullaby ”也是奥登献给情人的。
但是那个课堂上高尚地、忘我地朗诵诗篇的、将同性恋无限升华的Hector在生活中却不是那个样子的。
他在上法语课的时候纵容男生去表演妓院的情景(天你暗爽死了吧)。
甚至最爱开摩托车载男生回家(还挑男生的相貌。
),然后趁机去摸他们的蛋蛋。
天,他还有妻子!
终于有一天,他摸学生蛋蛋被交警看到了,他要被炒鱿鱼了,他还辩解说“知识传播本身就是带有色情意味”。
校长极度生气,大喊“去他的文艺复兴、去他的柏拉图、去他的米开朗基罗、去他的王尔德!
”还有梅乐思大喊:“你摸了学生的蛋蛋就是摸了,不要狡辩!
”这段我十分钟爱,就这么一句话,把Hector那似乎富有深度见解的狡辩给揭露了,把知识分子用华美的语言包装的龌蹉的行为给揭露了!
一下子什么鬼王尔德,那不齿的行为都在阳光下被刨开!
(有人知道,当年王尔德被判刑的依据最主要不是和波西搞基而是他四处嫖男妓么……虽然我很喜欢王尔德,但我还是要揭他老底)还有一幕,极能说明Hector的个性。
在Hector和Irwin共同上课的时候,他们与学生讨论犹太人屠杀。
Hector第一反应就是“天呀,你怎么可以跟学生讨论犹太人屠杀”。
然后他说“他们会在集中营拍照留念吗,他们会笑吗?
会牵手吗?
这些都不是合适”然后他激动地说“为什么我们不能直截了当地谴责集中营惨绝人寰、史无前例?
”“如此之类……殉难者仅仅化作一个微不足道的缩略词”。
这个不单单是反应了文学与历史对阐述历史事件之争,而且反应了文学对历史式的阐述的不齿。
Hector认为历史不应该被解释、不应被分解,他认为沉痛的沉默足矣。
当然我认为两者皆有可取之处,能够统一文学的情感表达和历史式的理性分析最好,但是我也认为Hector对历史的厌恨、理解过于偏激。
Hector此处表现的是作为文人的悯天怜人、也反应了他活在文人式的自我沉湎中。
毕竟,在社会实用性方面,历史的阐释远远重要过文人的沉醉。
有位男生说得好,他说“我觉得文人都是生活中的失败者”。
总结一下,Hector就是一个情感丰富、睿智的学者,同时也有着文人的懦弱、抑郁和自我沉湎。
再说说Irwin。
Irwin的教育方式我比较喜欢,再说想要考上剑桥牛津也没什么错。
最有意思的是,Irwin谎称他是牛津大学毕业的,其实他是布里斯托大学毕业的。
这也反应了他内心对牛津大学的精英意识的渴求。
再说说关于“讽刺”。
片中几处对比很有意思, Hector是谢菲尔德大学毕业的,但他却有着牛津剑桥的传统—同性恋崇拜;Hector表面要装着圣洁的同性爱人的形象,内里最爱摸学生蛋蛋,然后Dakin却直截了当地对Irwin说“你要给我口交吗”这种表面装逼和直接淫荡形成了绝妙对比;Irwin是校长钦点的让学生上牛津剑桥的老师,他自己却是Bristol的……但是这种讽刺是隔皮瘙痒的、矛盾的。
男生们(应该说是英国男生)一边厌恶着这个污浊的阶级社会的势力和虚伪,一边又迷恋着、向往着自己的优越地位。
他们一边憎恨着,一边迷恋着(青少年的传统)。
他们一边不齿Hector的非礼,一边又觉得能坐上他的后座很有趣、有意思;梅乐思老师高喊着“在女人眼中,历史没有在男人眼中那样趣味横生,为什么会这样?
因为她们没有地位……历史就是对众多无能男人的评述。
历史式什么?
历史就是女人亦步亦趋地跟在男人后面。
”大力批评了这个父权社会(特指英国),但是在戏中,背景设定在男校,女性角色少得可怜,在梅乐思说话时,Irwin还在跟Dakin调情;他们一边瞧不起学校逼着他们上牛津,但是却暗暗努力;一边觉得Irwin老师很有睿智,一边又试图勾引老师……到片尾,一切角色也竟在学生考上牛津后,重归于好,和和气气,仿佛之前的一切从没发生,一切回归到原点……最后,此片决不能视为探讨两种教育方式的片子,也不是什么大书讽刺的电影。
这不过是英国青少年在“高考”大背景下的一些青春骚动而已。
此电影向我们展示了英国师生关系中的一面,但却没有倾向,更像是轻松的幽默讽刺,即同时讽刺了Irwin和Hector,由同时赞扬了他们。
就是这种幽默讽刺的设定,让观众有些许的“科普”,也注定这部电影的深度不足。

看完《历史系男生》这部电影,相信大部分国人都会觉得自己高中生活的枯燥乏味。
在英国北部的这座男高里,他们的课堂氛围是如此的宽松自由,学生尽情徜徉在诗人、文学家的思想之海中,课堂上“指点江山、激扬文字”,与老师打成一片,与尊师重道的传统型中国教育形成了鲜明对比。
但即便在这样的教学氛围中,也会出现应试教育的焦虑。
校长想把这些男生送到剑桥牛津,而Hector散漫自由的通识教育课堂,被校长视为对他们考取牛剑毫无帮助。
而认为毕业于牛津(影片最后被证实其实是牛津的教师文凭)的年轻教师Elwin更能帮助这些男孩前往理想的至高学府。
这似乎与中国高中班主任强占体育课、音乐课来上语数外等文化课的方式有相似之处,但实际上又不尽然。
简言之,中英社会氛围导致的应试教育文化是不同的,但在此基础之下,我们需要的通识教育模式,却是共通的。
很显然,男高男生们接受的高中教育已属于是精英教育的范畴(尽管比不上伊顿公学之类;在这个范畴上,本片与《死亡诗社》都是根植于这样一个人物背景)。
而他们梦寐以求的牛剑两座高等学府的录取考试,有点类似于前几年国内比较流行的自主招生。
不同的地方在于,牛剑的录取工作只有这一次考试,而教授面试官们明显更关注学生的综合素养。
是Elwin帮助他们考取了牛剑吗?
我不这么认为。
在Dorothy、Hector和Elwin的共同教诲之下,其中Dorothy帮助他们奠基历史学基础,Hector帮助他们启迪人文主义,Elwin帮助他们训练批判性思维,是他们三个人的合力支持(包括其他可能的老师,但影片未提及)帮助这些男生们塑造了他们的综合素养,以至于可以在剑桥的评审老师眼中脱颖而出。
但反观中国的教育模式,Dorothy的基础知识和Elwin的批判性思维(影片中更强调推陈出新)可以被合理包容在高考的分数评价体系中,能够相得益彰;但Hector的通识教育观念(或者说是出于对文艺的浪漫热爱,尽管是散漫的)并不能被包容在现有的高考评价体系之中,在中国老师和家长的眼中,这当然是不务正业。
加上Hector的不良习惯,他估计早就被中国家长“诛杀”了。
但在崇尚文化的英国人眼中,Hector的精神滋养仍然是非常重要的。
以至于这部片子虽然有在比较Hector和Elwin的教学方法,但并没有给出一个孰优孰劣的判断。
所以,不被中国社会教育评价体系和社会功利体系所包容的通识教育,注定在中国社会是不被待见的吗?
我觉得回答这个问题,需要去面向通识教育的原本基点。
赫胥黎的《通识教育》中曾提到,“我认为,一个接受过通识教育的人应该是这样的:他年轻时受到的训练可以使其身体服从自己的意志,就像一台机器一样轻松而愉悦地从事一切工作;他的心智好比一台敏锐、冷静而有逻辑性的引擎,每个部分能力相当,有条不紊地运行着;他又如一台蒸汽机,待于效力各种工作,纺织思想之纱,铸就心智之锚;他的大脑中充满着知识,既有关于大自然的重要真理和知识,也有自然界运行的基本规律;他并不是一个不正常的苦行人,他的生活中总是充满生机和热情,但他的激情永远受制于强大的意志力和敏感的良知;他学会去热爱一切美好的事物,不论是自然之美还是艺术之美;他憎恨所有的丑恶,并做到尊人如待己。
”通识教育应与这个民族的文化相融,蕴含了这一民族宝贵的思想渊源与世界上其他民族优秀的思想资源,来让我们的学生可以在通识教育的引导下主动走进先贤的思想宝库,以至于能深耕于此,从而永葆对生命中美好的热爱与对丑恶的鞭挞。
就像我决定在本科接受经典教育时所受到的来自院长的教诲一样,“通识教育,关乎的是人一生的事业。
接受通识教育,你将受益一生。
”我希望我们可以转变观念,不再持功利性的思维导向,不再认为不传授显学知识的课堂人文教育是冗余的,我可以不去听;不再认为除主要学业之外的通识教育是微不足道的,是不务正业;不去衡量通识教育给我们带来的社会功利上的好处;家长们不再忽略自己孩子对美好人文艺术的热爱而认为他们在浪费时间。
只有我们整个社会充盈着一种对美好人文艺术的热爱,饱含着对社会正义与真善美的颂歌,时刻提防无意义的赞歌与藏在阴影处的丑恶,我们这个民族的文化才是有希望的,我们下一代的教育事业才是健康与可持续的。
我儿子在文科上比较有天分,在理科上也就一般般。
他喜欢阅读,喜欢思考“大”问题,比如乌托邦的设计中不允许有游戏是不好的。
跟所有孩子一样,他感兴趣的东西可以过目不忘,还能结合新闻谈点自己对时事的看法。
他对历史感兴趣,希望我给他讲故事。
他还能写诗,对文字的美有很不错的品味。
然而我却不怎么喜欢跟他讲那些,因为我不希望他对文科感兴趣,在我看起来,读文科日后是要饿死的,而且还会因为想太多而不快乐。
然而,今天我看了《The History Boys》(B站有看,中英文字幕,中文译名《历史系男生》)。
背景是1986年,约克郡一个小镇上的男校,雄心勃勃的校长想让那届成绩最好的高三学生去考牛津的奖学金,请来了个代课老师做专门针对名校笔试、面试的特训。
剧情的冲突有好几条线,腐国男校里常见的同性恋,老师对学生的性骚扰,实用主义的教育和博雅教育之间的矛盾,以及历史和文学本身引发的思考。
几条线交织在一起,复杂而不芜杂,深刻而不刻意,伤感而不煽情。
让我觉得,学文科还是好的。
我们归根结底还是人啊,在解决了温饱,买上了房子和车子,能出国旅行,能买个名牌包包,能把孩子送进名校之外,我们还是人啊,一个一个,能快乐,会感伤,面对生和死,爱和别离。
而那些人性共通的东西,只有最好的人文教育才能激发出来。
即使到了世界末日,我们也需要人文教育,那是能把人从苦难中提拔出来的稻草。
【以下有剧透】我最喜欢的一段,是胖老师Hector在教室里给学生Posner讲Hardy的诗Drummer Hodge。
这时Hector刚刚得知自己因为性骚扰学生的丑行而被解雇,失魂落魄地到教室里,却毫无心理准备地遇到等着他讲解诗歌的Posner。
Posner充满感情地朗诵这首诗,描述年轻的鼓手从英国乡村出来,没多久就死在南非的战场上,埋在那里,年老的诗人刻画生命的虚掷,充满感伤。
念完后,老师似乎还没从被解雇的噩耗中回过神来,敷衍般问学生的感想。
学生兴致勃勃地将这首诗对死在异乡的描述和另一首诗比较。
而老师这时候才仿佛慢慢找到感觉,告诉他为什么Hardy写得更好,告诉他这首诗的历史背景,告诉他为何诗里的鼓手是有名字的,这名字意味着什么。
告诉他为什么要用uncoffined这个词聊描述死者,这个词的意义,这个词传达的情感。
老师没有提到一个字关于自己当时的心情,但他显然感染到了他的学生,把他和学生都带到了诗的情感中,然后Hector说了下面这段话:“The best moments in reading are when you come across something--a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things--that you'd thought special, particular to you. And here it is, set down by someone else, a person you've never met, maybe someone long dead. And, ... it's as if a hand...has come out... and taken yours."当说到... it's as if a hand... has come out...,老师伸出手去,像是要递给学生,而学生也正要伸手去接,老师却抽了回来,... and taken yours,他把双手虚握放在了胸口。
他是一个性骚扰学生的老师,也是一个了不起的导师,从猥琐到崇高,人性的复杂,表现得淋漓尽致。
Hector和Totti是老派的老师,大量的知识灌进去,孩子们都够聪明,像海绵吸水一样吸收知识,灌多少吸收多少,历史、诗歌、法文...。
Irwin却是新派的老师,用电影里孩子的话来说,cutting-edge,逼着孩子去创新,以知识为阶梯去叩问,不满足于复制知识而强迫他们去创新说。
这是我看到的最直观的方式表达高中教育和大学教育的区别,或者说传统大学教育和现代大学教育的区别。
我也喜欢他们的小班讨论,讨论大屠杀,讨论历史是什么。
老师提问,学生回答,同意不同意都可以,课后去图书馆借一大堆书来,回家一边查书一边写文章支持自己的观点,然后老师批阅他们的文章。
这是博雅教育的精华,用一个灵魂去敲击另一个灵魂,认真严肃的思考,我理想中的seminar。
在古迹参观的时候,大家排好队合影,就缺胖老师Hector。
他慢慢地走过去,一边走一边说:"Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it, and pass it on. Not for me, not for you. But for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." 正好前天吃饭时闲聊,说起我儿子长大干什么。
他爸爸希望他做科学家,我说他理科不够好,恐怕够呛。
外婆说他可以做诗人,我说不行做诗人会饿死的。
外婆说,没关系,妹妹长大了赚钱养哥哥。
我们都笑了,我儿子却一言不发。
后来他爸爸再三问他,他很严肃地回答:“我要做老师,我要把知识传给后代。
” 还特地强调了一句:“我要做小学老师。
” 我笑了,因为他幼儿园的时候就说过想做幼儿园老师, 以此类推,说不定上了大学以后就想做大学老师了,似乎也没有离我们对他的期望太远。
后来我看到Hector说的这段话,我意识到我才是狭隘的那一个。
超越了个人的成败得失,他看到了更深远的东西。
That's the game he wants to learn, to pass it on。
刚好是前几天听的lecture里,说的是美国大学的 law in history,提到the most dramatic change is the way teaching was done,which is followed the Socrqtic questioning style,并且一直沿用至今。
而在那之前的一个星期,刚好有南周评论版一哥们儿写苏格拉底的死写得风姿勃发。
下午看了《The history boys》,戏剧改电影,演员台词功底实在了得,用词华丽流畅,书袋也吊得无迹可觅,看完了想想差不多题材老美的《死亡诗社》确实够烂,不论老师学生都只能念几句惠特曼的“Oh,captain,my captain”,怪不得欧洲文化中心论到现在也是如此地有市场。
背景是80年代文法男校,出场人物有三位历史老师、八名学生和一个校长。
喜欢在骑摩托车时把手放到后座男生ball上面去的Hector老师为人风趣随和不拘小节,教学方式散漫又无章法,他热衷于培养学生对诗歌修辞的好感,八个学生经常会在法语课上模拟妓院的对话场景以巩固对虚拟态语气词汇的掌握……然而学生并非会被这种慢节奏无绩效的老式教学方式所迷惑——他们的目标是牛津或剑桥的历史系。
校长请来了牛津毕业的年轻教师Irwin,这位老师的教学犀利、深刻而充满激情,与Hector的方法刚好形成良性互补,最终八名学生全部得偿所愿。
被我说的若无其事的概括底下大概是一般中国学生难以理解的种种情感及其处理方式。
当我将Darkin对Irwin的表白与Clive对Maurice的进行对照时,发现了相类似的各种要素。
因此感情是激励我观看然而我却不愿予以多说的东西,我对苏格拉底感兴趣。
Hector的教学方式是苏格拉底式的吗?
校长对这个做了肯定的回答,那么看起来新潮锋利的Irwin呢?
我倒觉得也是。
片中开头一幕很有意思,也有可能是我想多了:一个学生骑车去了教堂,神父正在说着祷词:“神所赐出人意外的平安,必在基督耶稣里保守你们的心怀意念。
全能之主的祝福,圣父、圣子和圣灵,会保佑汝等,并与汝共存,现在如此,今后亦然,阿门。
”再看到后面分别出场的三位老师,总有一种隐隐对照着trinity的感觉。
刚好三位老师采取的是三种不同的教学方法,于是就想当然了。
Dorothy作为唯一的女教师,她的教学严谨而深具批判意识。
Hector则并非是散漫无目的教学方法令学校不能令人接受,相反,校长说过“有效”这样的话,只不过因为他摸ball的动作被女巡查员看到了而被迫退休。
新来的Irwin则能够最大地调动学生的求知热情,三个性格、方式各异的老师凑在一起,教出了八个牛津剑桥的学生其实也顺理成章。
Hector是要求在长期的教学中对学生潜移默化,注重文学素养并依赖这样的基础,喜欢吊书袋的他何尝不是在白发苍苍的时候才能够“随心所欲”的呢?
他深信时间能够带给人最大的安慰,然而他又确实被时间伤害不浅这样的矛盾体现在他出场发言的每时每刻,并且他是以此为享受的。
崇拜安逸是懦夫的行为,他在花甲之龄仍然以一种浮士德式的姿态战斗着,一点儿也不美观,但却让人心生好感——这不能够称之为同情,同情该是对他以及对我们这些心生好感的人的嘲笑。
它不会让人愤怒,但它不应该用在Hector的身上,即便他壮士断腕般今朝酒醉明日赴死。
Hector是个纯粹的、天生的老师,他不需要用校规或者其他东西包括道德来约束自己,因为他认为对于一个真正的教师来说,“教师”的身份就应该是最大的约束,除此之外,百无禁忌。
Irwin则简单得多,他是个已经被急功近利的现代性给弄得别别扭扭的那种家伙,可是,无奈地,非常招人喜欢。
无论是观众还是学生,更或者是万人迷的Darkin。
他的尖酸和深刻一样惹人怜爱,犹如他的自信和自卑,那般恰到好处地融合,使他既嚣张又惶惑。
凉薄的双颊代表自制,眼镜的遮掩则又精光四溢,每个人都爱他爱得不行,爱到连他漏洞百出的字体也被了解和模仿。
Irwin上课时的passion很强大,相当吸引人,赚得的眼球使他既得意又恐惧。
以至于到最后,连我都以为他真的会跪在地上,suck Darkin……Irwin是这样的一位老师,他不止像Hector那样简单的传递与索取,更多的时候他将两者融为一体,使自己犹如禁欲的僧侣一般脆弱到不堪一击,而揭开寡陋的面具攻击他的人总是存在。
我们都爱Irwin,学生爱,老师同样爱,他自己也爱,所以在最后他对与Darkin之间约会的忘却是那样的无理但含情脉脉。
Irwin本身没有做教师的自觉,所以,他越来越是那种需要随时提醒自己有所自觉的讨厌状。
他太年轻,经不起考验,故而不如舍弃考验,这一点我们既爱又恨。
Dorothy的出场份额短暂但并非无效,她对历史的看法犹如历史自身一样地充满了偏见但使人不得不敬畏。
她是隐者,但并不低调,她在合适的时候绽放,容易教人忽然陷入无所适从地尴尬,因为她居然那么简单又真实,就好像近代史手册一样,却又最容易受到无数观点的左右而易于摇摆。
Dorothy应该起调和的作用,但事实上她往往最为激动,学生记得这样的老师的存在,正因为记得她偶尔的雷霆万钧。
三位老师其实共同体现的都是苏格拉底的智慧与责任,因为这一点避无可避,又因为——there it is。
短短两个小时的电影,反映出了如此多的道理,却并不拥挤逼仄,相反倒有一种天性的诗意缓缓淌过,简直是最好的英式教育白皮书,不得不感叹,一个好的戏剧,张力的确能够做到文学性与表演性的极致,或者说是能够找准那个最佳平衡点,从而在任何情况下赢得时间和空间。
电影看完了,有人醒悟说,原来自始至终强调的居然不是那句“history is just one fuckin' thing after another.”而是Hector说的,education needs “Take it, feel it and pass it on”。
所以,这部影片其实从头到尾都是在向雅典公民苏格拉底先生致以最崇高的敬意。
包括那无处不在的洋溢在年轻与老朽的肉体之中的爱与责任。
这是一部关于教育、历史、人生的哲学片。
影片的主线是英国一所高中的一个班级里的7个学生,备考牛津剑桥的故事。
这所学校的校长为了提高自己中学的名誉和地位,组织了学校里最优秀的学生成立了一个剑桥牛津班,颇似中国高中的清华北大班,配备了专门的老师。
看样子这种现象不是国内的事情,其他国家也存在啊。
剧中提到了不少英国的大学,除了Cambridge,Oxford两所牛校,还有Bristol, York ,Durham,Sheffeild, Manchester,Leeds,Newcastle都是10-20名左右的很不错的大学。
能去剑桥牛津当然是每个人的梦想,但就像不是每个人都能进入清华北大一样,其他的也还有很多很优秀的大学,他们可能综合实力不如那两所,但某些研究领域却和他们一样优秀和一流。
所以,选择也不必执着,适合自己的才是最好的。
关于教育方式,hector的方式是有趣的,寓教于乐的,Irwin的方式是严谨的,挑战性的,赋予启迪性的。
这两种方式各有所长,hector的方式让大家学的开心,让大家对历史感兴趣而自己去学习;Irwin的方式让大家挑战自己的思维,勇于思考。
剧中特别的地方时hector和Irwin都是同性恋。
而他们表达的方式却各不相同,hector老师每次回家都要带上一位学生在他的摩托车后座上,然后摸摸他们的老二。
这个方式还蛮可爱的,貌似每个学生都心知杜明,却也没有在意,因为仅仅是摸摸而已。
Irwin却不敢表现出任何行为,虽然他教育学生要做一个敢想敢做的人,自己确不敢付诸实践。
影片中几个让我记忆深刻的场景:关于阅读的美妙之处,hector的一句话说的很好:The best moment of reading is when you come across something-a thought,a feeling,a way of looking at things ,you thought special ,particular to you.Here it is,sit down by someone else,a person you never met ,may be even someone long dead,and it's like a hand coming out and taking yours. 阅读是你和作者的心灵的对话,这个作者,你从来没有见过,甚至已经死去很多年,然而你却发现在某些问题上你们心有灵犀。
hector被校长要开除的时候,那个女同事的一席惋惜也是颇有哲理,如果,当天不是那个警察值班,如果当时过马路时是绿灯,如果再过五分钟,每一个如果都可以产生一个不一样的结果,可是为什么当初就那样发生了呢。
生活中的我们何尝不是,如果自己当初没有做那件小小的事情,没有点击那个网页,没有参加那个聚会,没有捡到一本书,一切都不会是现在的这样。
可是,历史就是这样,正是由这些小事组成的,一串一串发生的。
最后,学生Dakin问老师Irwin,can we have a drink?
have a drink 只不过是一种委婉的说法,have a drink 之后的故事总是令人遐想。

大胆而挑逗,我喜欢。
好久没有能有时间看电影,更不用说写些什么。
象以往的很多次一样,英国背景的小品电影,又一次打动我。
The History Boys 来头不小,由新鲜夺得2005年劳伦斯.奥立佛大奖最佳新编舞台剧、最佳导演及最佳男主角三项大奖的舞台剧改编而来。
20世纪80年代,英国的YORK郡,男孩子门在发芽萌动的心痒痒的夏天,却要面对进入牛津剑桥的严酷挑战,一边是带他们进入艺术世界却也不时骚扰他们的同性恋老教授HECKTOR,一边是新闯入这所沉闷学校的英俊牛津毕业生老师,吸引着最优秀的漂亮男生的目光。
在严谨和感性的对抗中,戏剧中锤炼出的台词如同颗颗珍珠一般闪亮而优雅。
爱情,永远是这个年纪的孩子没有接受却必须经过的必修课。
DAKIN原来的骄傲是接近校长的美女小秘的三垒,却在感激和欣赏之中发现自己最想取悦的是年轻的新老师IRWIN,在拿到牛津的OFFER之后和IRWIN单独相处的对话,咄咄逼人的火辣辣的对话,也许是他之后一生都不会有的表白。
一直明恋着DAKIN的POSNER,BE WITCHED的歌曲被他演绎的深情无比,他的无结果的单恋和对IRWIN的嫉妒竟然没有一点灰色的悲伤,反而在最后的毕业时分,因为DAKIN一个理解的拥抱依然笑靥盛开。
他知道自己是什么样的人,也因而理解HECKTOR的苦楚,对于太多不能表示的爱或者情感,也许只有温和的注视和在别人哭泣的时候能够轻轻拍拍他的肩膀。
而也是他在最后,把HECKTOR的精神传承了下去,静静的承受,用不多的天才传递着爱,如他所讲:I AM NOT HAPPY, BUT I AM NOT UNHAPPY ABOUT IT。
即便是IRWIN,在最开始就被看破的漂亮老师,不管是不是有了勇气真的去追求性取向里的那份冲动,毕竟不会再在名校毕业里的谎言继续一个自己并不最爱的工作,而是去做了一个记者,去讲述自己看到和相信的世界。
教育中,什么是有用的,而什么又是值得的?
历史是不是真的有其真实,或者只是一连串可能的堆砌?
而面对每个人自己的历史,而如何去书写他?
导演并没有树立一个万世师表的标杆,或一群天天向上的好学生,并不想给出任何答案。
只是一个老爷爷,一个年轻教师和一群真实的年轻人的夏天。
突然WONDER为什么涉及到同性话题的电影总离不开夏天,也许这种时候,一切都肆意生长,有种种理由去不拒绝诱惑,或者仅仅是因为,生命,其实也都应该有一季绽放,甚至不为了结果。
电影的结尾,又一首注定要象CLOSER里面的BLOWERS DAUGHTER一样要被我记得的歌曲,同性恋歌手Rufus Wainwright翻唱的JAZZ老歌Bewitched,JAZZ就象爱情本身,被无数的人演绎,但总有一个人会有最让你心动的味道。
那一刻,就象HECKTOR所形容,象有一只手穿越层层时空,握住你的手,然后你知道,茫茫人海你并不寂寞。
原谅我又一次Bewitched BY 那些闪亮的台词,让我用HECKTOR最痛恨而IRWIN最喜欢的摘句来结束这文章:LOVE APART IS THE ONLY EDUCATION THAT WORTH HAVING.PASS IT ON,BOYS,TAKE IT,FEEL IT,PASS IT ON
上世纪八十年代初的约克郡文法学校,8个背景不同的学生、3个方法迥异的老师、1个刻板的校长,妙语连珠,教学相长,构成了一出难得的校园喜剧。
类似国内中学追求升学率和高考状元,英国的学校也有拿奖学金进牛津剑桥的硬指标。
校长(Clive Merrison)认为,这些天才男孩是他刷新校绩的好苗子,但基础科教师Hector (Richard Griffiths)却专注于文学品位和趣味。
对Hector而言,“不存在什么通识,只有特定的感悟,而且知识不以掌握多少和好坏为衡量标准”,在他的法语课上,学生可以模拟妓院的场景,引用著名诗句来演绎艳遇。
他不希望等学生们人到中年再领悟文学的魅力,他让孩子们在青春年少时就体尝到创作的乐趣,哪怕他们把音乐剧改成杂耍和闹剧。
“阅读中最大的乐趣,就是你突然领悟到什么,一种思想、一段情感、一个视角,和一个未曾谋面的人有了共鸣,就像有人握住了你的手”,他在诠释Thomas Hardy的诗歌时,分明是在注解自己的人生。
他认为激发孩子们的活力才能产生头脑风暴,哪怕得用书砸他们的脑袋。
校长自然认为Hector不适合搞应试教育,就聘用了一个新人Irwin (Stephen Campbell Moore)来做考前集训。
Irwin认为答题越奇葩越好,不论观点对错、是否属实,你去证明斯大林是个大善人更容易脱颖而出被名校录取。
本片编剧Bennett爱反讽爱狡辩爱唱反调,Irwin的离经叛道自然冒犯了Hector的道德标准,而Hector的行为不检点又突破了大众的道德底线。
Hector认为“知识的传播本身就带有色情意味”,不幸的是他把这个信念付诸行动,在摩托车上抚摸那些男孩。
在多角度的辩论中、在青春的荒唐中、在分析成人世界的过程中,孩子们也悄然成长。
那种青涩的机智和懵懂的热情也是此片的魅力之一。
在片尾他们成年后的命运让人感慨,我们也见证了一场人生酸甜苦辣的悲喜剧。
校长说:“Hector作为老师不合时宜,他是个启蒙者,但他的成就却无法以成绩来定量”

很励志。看着他们从图书馆借来的书,想到了自己,一边读一边抄。这样的学习方式很棒。法语课上的情景剧只为虚拟语气。钢琴弹得真不错~说实话我看到了他弹的根本那本谱子上印的曲子。英国真保守。不喜欢英国。不止是气候。

3.5 信息量巨大,是看点,也是缺点,平衡做得不好会让电影空间变得拥挤。与其说这是一部同性恋题材电影,不如说它就是一部严肃探讨历史命定的片子,如何看待历史?每个角色都给出了自己的看法,我觉得因为历史只有一次,所以所有偶然都是必然,而当宿命论作为结果出现时,一切就变得合理无疑,但从中提出假如的疑问会让今天的历史变得有趣,也就是我的今天,以及大众的今天,探讨历史的可能性就是在探讨人的未来,是重蹈覆辙抑或有效传承就要看个人造化了。另外,电影里的诗歌真好啊,里面的引言如此多,直叫我掩眼---读书太少!
一辆房车、装满书、环游世界
说实话,看完此片我有种云里雾里的感觉,不知道它的主题是什么。尽管围绕教学方式对立的两个老师、想名校冲刺的八个学生讲了很多,诸如男生间的同性爱、老师对学生性骚扰、诠释历史事件的手法、以商业思维发展教育及教与学的真正意义等话题。也许,它所涉及的校园及社会问题正是其主旨所在吧。
